The world of Freya
Welcome to the world of Freya, our home for adventuring. This wiki will detail the history of the world, along with it’s quirks, cultures, technology level, magic, and populace. To give a brief overview, the world of Freya was once a thriving peaceful land, filled with great empires, art, magic and culture; however, about 650 years ago there was a terrible war, and since then the world has been cast into darkness. Everything has been set back, once tamed lands have been returned to their wild roots, and humanity exists as a few points of light in an otherwise darkened world.
Warlords and corrupt barons come and go, quickly gathering towns and villages together, only to be crushed under their own greed, or stabbed in the back by one of the endless people they’ve ground underfoot. Many towns and villages exist on their own, barely holding on to life. People are born, live and die without traveling more than 50 miles from their own homes usually – the exceptions being brigands and those drafted into one of the flash-pan warlord armies.
Strangers are distrusted, secrets are closely guarded, and a man who breaks his word is forever untrustworthy. Magic is rare, feared and often hidden by its practitioners – it is common for people who are even suspected of being spell casters to be hunted and burned alive.
Humanity has lost its faith in the Gods, and as a result, true spell casting priests are rare. Contrary to wizards though, priests that have the gift of the Gods are highly respected and practically worshiped for the aid they bring to a suffering world. This makes each village, town or city with a real cleric a beacon of light in the surrounding area, but also a tempting target.
Racial distrust runs high. Where once elves, dwarves and humans would work together to build great things, fight together against the untamed wilds and subhumans, now they greet one another with harsh words and steel. Half breeds are outcasts of all societies, often product of invading armies raping and pillaging the lands.
